About Me:

Just reached the magic age of 75 and am in reasonably good health. Would like to get to Florida more often but it's a long way from WA state. The wife and I celebrated our 50th this year. We have four children and 6 grands. Served in the Army 1955-1976 in various posts throughout the US and world. It's been a good life.

    Hi Pete:

    Two old FLA boys in Washington State. I live on Whidbey Island, on 20a in a 100 year old farm house. This is very close to heaven.

    I was flying with the Navy in Key West when the flap started. Front row seat. What a show.

    Ann and I celebrated 56yrs together.

    You're right Pete, folks never realized how close that Cuban thing came. Being in communications with a Secret clearance, I saw what was going on. Wasn't good, but I'm glad that war never started. I remember sending fourteen messages to our highest command at about one a minute. Talk about tension, I could feel it from everybody around me. I believe they thought it was a sub drifting at about five knots towards our carrier. Everybody was wondering how it got inside the perimeter of the surounding ships that protects the Flag ship. Anyway, relief was soon to surface, it was a whale. And thanks to you Pete for being there when I was there. Those who didn't serve will never understand. And, of course, in our youth, we didn't realize the full brunt of it while it was happening.

    It is a long way from Florida to Washington State for sure. My sister's husband was from Omak and we flew to Spokane in Jan 99 to stay in one of our conco's and it snowed most of the week. That was a real experience for one who had lired in the south most of the time. Contratulations on your 50 years of marriage and the children and grandchildren. I will be 75 in February and hope to have a great day of celebration. It is good to be just 6 to 7 hours from Tampa as my granddaughter still lives here along with most of my family. We came down last Friday because my sister had fallen at the nursing home and yesterday was her 83rd birthday. We will be going back to Dothan on Sunday and return in January for another week to 10 days.
