About Me:

I'm still in Tampa and I am a Language Arts teacher at HHS! I have been married for 8 years (on the 30th of June, actually) to Scott who is a white boy from the midwest (go figure!) We have two daughters, Destiny who is now 16 (yikes!!!) and is going to be a Junior in high school (double yikes!) and Zoë, who is 6 years old about to start 1st grade. Destiny came before Scott but was named for that reason... she was part of my destiny. Before teaching I did a little of this, a little of that... I worked at Busch Gardens, the mall, waitressed at Blueberry Hill in Harbor Island, moved to Sarasota... then, picked up and left the state and came back exactly one year later 6 months pregnant. woh! I worked at Winn Dixie in their Marketing Department for 7 years, then got a "better" job with MCIWorldcom. Then they went bankrupt and fired a lot of people, including me which was around September, 2001. At the same time I was pregnant. Yeah.... what to do? Hey, go back to school! So I did and got two B.A.'s (English CRW and Spanish Lit)...did an Honors Thesis and graduated Magna Cum Lauda, while taking care of a newborn, turned toddler, turned little crazy mamas and a blossoming teenager (oh yeah and the husband too!). I started working at HHS the fall after I graduated from USF. I could have worked at King H.S., but how could I resist the Big Red? The football games are still awsome! Now I'm at USF getting a graduate degree in Education and working on my second book of short stories. ;)

  • Feels good to "pay it back", doesn't it! You are one of the few who have had the honor, including Wayne Gallops (HHS band director, HHS Co 1981). I'm going to the next HHS game...hope it does not rain!
  • I am proud to see you as a teacher at our high school. That is awesome. I noticed you as I was looking through the site. You have a beautiful family. Tell your sister That I salute her and that I said hello. Take care. Karl

Anyway, you HAD to bring up that Janet Jackson performance. hahaha. Oh my, those days were awesome. You were a blast with your Madonna's rendition (lips zipped). Your sister, Gloria was a riot when we did 'The Wiz' together...the things that used to go on during rehearsal. lol. Well, I will check this site every now and then. Still looking for so many people that I have been wondering about.

  • They were visitors to our campsite at Hillsborough River State Park. We go camping there a couple of times a year and they come calling every time. We love animals and enjoy them coming around. Our dogs cornered a screech owl in our back yard the other night (it didn't get injured) and we took it to Care Animal Hospital in Brandon where they rehabilitate predatory birds. If James gives you any problems feel free to let me know. My actual e-mail is ben.hunter@sdhc.k12.fl.us. Yes, I work for Hillsborough County Schools also. I help format, rewrite, and prepare for printing the curriculum used in the Adult and Community Education Department. Our offices are located on the hill behind Gary Adult. That way I can honestly tell people that I work on the hill. Do they still open assemblies with the Pleadge of Allegiance and Alma Mater like they did back in 69 - 72 when I was there? Talk at you later.
