  • I, too, remember Mr. Matthews, and I appreciate what you had to say about him.  He was my neighbor and close friend as well as teacher.  He left us too soon , due to ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease.)
  • Hello Charles: I'm not sure if this message  was ever sent to you but here it is again. Just wondering are you on Face Book and if you are how would you name be listed because I can't find it on search there. There is going to be an unofficial get together of all 1960's graduates and would like for you to join us August 19,2011 in Tampa. It's being organized by Linda Williams of 1967 class and she has been using Face Book topost info about it. If you are not on Face Book you can email her at ( linda.richert@ yahoo.com and let her know you are interested and she can take your info and give you info also. I would like a good showing of 1963 if possible. Right now there are 10 and only about  1/2 are attending at this time. Let me know what you think and you can email me at (gcbrown.dallas@verizon.net).
  • Fantastic Charles!
  • Hello Charles I'm Gary Brown from 1963 and just joined HHSAA and also in the 1963 group. Is and are you still active in the 1963 group. I would like to get more to join the group because there is still a lot of us out there and only 3 of us showing up and one is actually 1964 and wife of DA . I am not sure what to do about this group. My profile email is not working so it is keeping me from sending out messages to my 1963 friends. It has been reported but I think it is because they have not received my membership enrollment and check. Who knows?

I hope you remember me because I do remember you.

    Gary Brown

  • Hance's death was totally unexpected. He was always so healthy & active; however, one day he felt as though he was fighting a flu bug & stayed home with his sweet wife (HHS graduate Joyce Garcia). He went to bed early & died shortly afterwards from a massive heart attack/aneurysm. We were all devastated. Hance was always like a brother to my husband & though he passed over 10 years ago, the pain of his loss is still fresh. It's so true that every day is a gift & we need to spend the time God gives us making memories with those we love. Stay safe; see you in 2013.
  • Thanks for your note, Charles. Like you, my memory is not as good as it once was. I've never been to any of my own Class of '64 reunions, but I've gone to several of my husband's Class of '63 reunions. Back then my husband Dolan was known as D.A. and Boofy; he played football and was best friends with the late Hance McCain. Perhaps that will help you place him. At any rate, good to hear from you. I'll share your note with him.
  • Hi Charles,
Glad to be HHS classmates friends with You. I have a burning question for you when I first saw your name and picture. Are You related to one of our past HHS graduates. His name was Baldomero Lopez 1943 HHS graduate, Naval Academy, and Korean War Medal of Honor Receipant. He gave his all and his life for us. Also are You related to any of the 1955-57 HHS graduates. I knew some Lopez's at HHS back then.
You have some real nice pictures on your site. I live in Texas and have been here since 1960. Have been back to Tampa about 5 times since 1960. Don't have any relatives there now just friends. It is always nice to meet former past HHS students.
    Will visit again later.
Blessings to You and Yours - Leslie Brown
  • Hi Charles,

If you were teaching around Tampa, did you happen to know Jerry Meguiar? Although he and his whole family are Plant Panthers (nobody's perfect!), they are the nicest people, and the best friends I have who are still in Tampa. They came to the Alumni Hall of Fame ceremony in 2007 when I was inducted. Pam, Jerry's wife, remarked how it was the first time she had ever set foot in Hillsborough's halls, and she was blown away by the beauty of our building.
